Leaving a Legacy

Helping Wymondham Abbey...

How to leave a legacy and help Wymondham Abbey

What is a legacy?

A legacy is a gift in your Will.

Types of legacies

There are a number of different types of gift to consider:

  • Pecuniary legacy: This is a gift of a specified sum of money.

  • Specific bequest: The gift of an asset such as property, shares, etc. Such an asset can be left to Preservation Trust for subsequent sale or investment.

  • Residuary gift: The residue of your estate is everything that remains after all the other gifts have been distributed and debts paid. You could leave all or a percentage of the residue to the Preservation Trust.

How do I make a will?

Making a will is a deeply personal matter, and although it is not complicated it can feel daunting. You may have questions about how to do it tax efficiently, the type of legacy you can leave or the benefits available to you and your loved ones.

Whatever you decide to do, it is important that you speak to a solicitor or financial advisor to gain professional advice.

If you are writing your own will, we have produced a document with suggested wording; please click here to download it.

If you already have a will but would like to include a gift to the Preservation Trust, your solicitor can advise you on making a codicil.
